Ever since Ragnarok, the human realm of the Midlands has been bereft of magic, and most lead lives of desperation. Eiric Halvorsen's family has remained prosperous -- until he is convicted by a rigged jury of murdering his modir and stepfadir. His half-systir, Liv, has an interest in seidr, or magic -- and become a figure of suspicion. A powerful jarl offers to pay the blood price if Eiric will lead a mission to the fabled Temple at the Grove -- stronghold of the wyrdspinners, the last practitioners of sorcery. Spellsinger, musician, and runecaster Reggin Eiklund has spent her life traveling, performing at alehouses for the benefit of her master, Asger, the fire demon she is desperate to escape. Then two wyrdspinners in the audience ask her to return with them to the temple to be trained in seidr, forever free of Asger. In New Jotunheim Eiric and Asger will discover that a great evil lurks beneath the dazzling surface -- and another cataclysmic war looms. -- adapted from publisher.

"Teaching Writing in Small Groups details essential practices for optimizing groups that help teachers: value each child's language and literacy practices, develop relationships with their writers, teach with efficiency, increase student engagement, improve independence, develop social support amongst students, and provide space to give and receive feedback. Teaching Writing in Small Groups lays the foundation for success. The author shows how to create groups for maximum effectiveness and how to make what you teach responsive, clear, and sticky. Then she streamlines differentiated instruction with a menu of small-group options for providing just-right support: strategy lessons, guided writing, shared writing, interactive writing, inquiry groups, reflection groups, and coaching writing partnerships and clubs"--
Meet Willie O'Ree

"Meet Willie O'Ree -- the first Black hockey player to play in the NHL. He blazed a trail for diversity on and off the ice! On January 18, 1958, Willie O'Ree made history when he suited up with the Boston Bruins against the Montreal Canadiens. O'Ree went on to play a total of 45 games with the Bruins, a remarkable achievement considering all he had to overcome to get there. He was often subjected to racism, bigotry and name-calling. He was blind in one eye -- something he had to keep secret or he'd never play in the NHL. But thanks to his relentless positivity, perseverance and love of the game, Willie's time with the Bruins is only the beginning of his achievements in hockey. Players like Grant Fuhr, Jarome Iginla and many others looked to him for inspiration. For the past twenty years he has served as the NHL's Director of Youth Development and ambassador for NHL diversity and is the leader of the "Hockey Is For Everyone" program -- a title he still holds today. Finally, in January of 2018, Willie was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. According to the NHL commissioner, "There are a select few about whom it can truly be said: 'He changed the game.' Willie O'Ree is among that select few." "--

Gyo Fujikawa's iconic children's books are beloved all over the world. Now it's time for Gyo's story to be told--a story of artistic talent that refused to be constrained by rules or expectations. Growing up quiet and lonely at the beginning of the twentieth century, Gyo learned from her relatives the ways in which both women and Japanese people lacked opportunity. Her teachers and family believed in her and sent her to art school and later Japan, where her talent flourished. But while Gyo's career grew and led her to work for Walt Disney Studios, World War II began, and with it, her family's internment. But Gyo never stopped fighting--for herself, her vision, her family and her readers--and later wrote and illustrated the first children's book to feature children of different races interacting together. This luminous new book beautifully and openly touches on Gyo's difficult experiences and growth. Through Julie Morstad's exquisite illustrations, alternating between striking black-and-white linework and lush colour, and Kyo Maclear's artful and accessible writing, the story of this cherished figure is told at last.
